One of the burning questions I get a lot – especially for people starting out with Facebook traffic – is how many followers do you need on your Facebook page to start getting a significant number of visitors to your website?
Unlike SEO, where you more or less pitch your lemonade stand (or website in this case), and wait a very long time for visitors to arrive from Google or Bing, the Facebook niche site traffic method first requires an audience to be built in order to pitch our website content to.
The size of this audience determines, to a certain extent anyway, how much traffic you will see coming to your website from Facebook.
To save on costs, we want to start our initial follower audience under 20,000 and ultimately grow our page following much larger for free using viral post techniques – more on that later!
This means for a new Facebook page, we will need to buy a seed audience of Facebook page followers using the Facebook ads platform (don’t worry, this is easier than it sounds).
I recommend aiming to grow your seed audience to 10-20,000 followers initially via the Facebook page like ads.
I recommend running these ads over a 6 to 8-week period, because increasing the daily budget beyond $20 a day will push up your ad cost (more on this in my premium training course)!
It will cost $600 to $800 to buy the first 10k followers if they are in tier 1 countries such as the US and UK, and properly interest targeted to your niche, such as “Harley Davidson Fans”, “City Gardeners” or “Pug Moms”.
If you have the budget, buying up to 20k followers will speed up the process of getting traffic and building on those initial fans.
I often get asked, can you start a Facebook page with zero followers and still get traffic?
It’s possible, but you would need to spam the hell out of other pages and groups, and I don’t recommend that approach!
So, let’s say you have 10,000 followers, all in the US and niche-aligned, how much traffic can you get to your website now?
Whoah there buddy… first we need to build up our page engagement and health by posting viral memes and engaging content!
Sure you could start scheduling page links to your website from day one, but with just 10k followers you won’t see the sort of traffic you need to make decent revenue – maybe a coffee a day.
The other benefit to posting viral memes and engaging content at first is you will organically build up your followers from the seed base with new, free followers!
Did you know just one, big viral post can give you in the region of 10,000 new followers, at no cost?
So, for the next 4-8 weeks just post viral content with minimal post links thrown in the mix (because links reduce post reach).
This will also give you enough time to make lots of awesome site content to post in the future, after you have built up your page health and viral follower base!
So, back to the original question… just how many followers do you need to make money from Facebook?
Obviously, cases vary greatly, but generally at around 25,000 followers, you will start to see considerable traffic (100s to 1000s of visitors per day) to your website from say 4-8 post links posted per day, and at 50,000 that traffic will be more consistent, possibly up to 5,000 or maybe 10,000 visitors on a good day.
That’s not to say you can’t go viral and get massive traffic from just 2,500 followers, but it’s rarer.
To get millions of visitors per month from Facebook, you generally need 5 to 10 different Facebook pages and maybe 3 to 8 websites to send the traffic to. That’s exactly how I did it!
Beware – huge Facebook pages tend to see huge drop-offs of post reach, due to the way the Facebook algorithm is designed. Having millions of followers isn’t as great as it might seem at first glance.
So that being the case, if you grow your page to say, 150,000 followers – it’s better to create more pages in your niche and grow those to 150k, rather than just keep growing the one page to some colossal size that results in heavily restricted post reach.
Having multiple Facebook pages also means you can cross-post content as well, which is a great tactic to increase your chances of going viral. I’m seeing some big success stories with cross-posted content right now in the Facebook Traffic Mastermind Group!
I hope this has given you an indication of how much traffic you can expect to see from your Facebook pages. As always, results will vary site-to-site and page-to-page.
